Before launching 812 Thrift, Zachary spent time thrifting around the Evansville area with his friend Owen. Over time, they accumulated more pieces than they could keep, and the idea of turning their finds into a business was born. Inspired by the surplus, they launched an Instagram shop initially called "OfAndZTresell." However, the shop was rebranded to 812 Thrift in November 2019, giving the venture a fresh identity. When COVID-19 hit, the business faced significant challenges—thrifting became nearly impossible, and Owen moved to Vincennes to join the National Guard, leaving Zachary to figure out how to keep the business alive on his own.
In its early days, 812 Thrift was known primarily to friends of Zachary and Owen, which made expansion challenging. Without a broader audience, growing the brand required significant effort to reach beyond their immediate network, build awareness, and establish a presence in the wider community.
Then something clicked—Zachary realized that 812 Thrift had the potential to be much more than a small operation. He began to see the importance of scaling it to its fullest potential by building a strong, recognizable brand and reaching beyond his immediate network. It wasn’t just about selling clothes; it was about creating a community, curating a unique experience, and establishing a business that could resonate with a larger audience. This mindset shift marked a turning point for 812 Thrift, pushing Zachary to take it seriously and think strategically about its growth and long-term success.
In March 2023, the Pretty Girls hoodie dropped, marking a pivotal moment for 812 Thrift that forever changed the trajectory of the brand. The release, which quickly gained traction, resonated deeply with customers, sparking a wave of excitement and creating a buzz that spread far beyond the local community. It was more than just a product launch—it was a statement, showcasing 812 Thrift's ability to blend style, culture, and authenticity in a way that captured the attention of a much broader audience. The success of the hoodie set the tone for what was to come, igniting a fire within the brand and propelling it forward into new territory. Since that moment, 812 Thrift has never looked back. Every step forward has been marked by growth, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to its vision. The brand continues to evolve, pushing boundaries and expanding its reach, all while maintaining the core values that made it special in the first place.
Zachary has a clear and ambitious vision for 812 Thrift, rooted in its origins but focused on the endless possibilities ahead. He sees the brand as more than just a business; it’s a platform to connect with people, inspire creativity, and build a community that values individuality and sustainability. With a commitment to innovation, Zachary is determined to explore new opportunities for growth—whether through expanding product offerings, collaborating with like-minded organizations, or creating unique experiences for customers. His dedication and forward-thinking approach position 812 Thrift to become a brand that not only evolves with the times but also sets new standards in the industry.
